Recently, the President of the Republic of Armenia Mr. Armen Sarkissian and First Lady Mrs. Nouneh Sarkissian toured COAF SMART Center in the Lori region. They got to see the center in action, and spoke with children and adults who were attending courses in robotics, digital drawing, programming, dance, active citizenship, languages.
“You don’t just put together Lego pieces, you build your future,” the president said to the members of robotics lab. “For example, you will build tractors in the future, and we will not have to import the agricultural machinery materials from other countries.” For President Sarkissian, the COAF SMART Center represents not just an educational platform for communities, but a program rich with potential for technological and economic development.
The president emphasized how nuanced and cutting edge the COAF SMART Center was, stating that he had never seen anything like it in any other country. “You should never forget that you are proud citizens of Armenia,” he said to COAF SMART Center students.
The tour concluded with an address by the president to a group of over two hundred children in the Andrea Martin Performing Arts auditorium. “Millions of kids in New York would dream of attending such an educational center… I like this center so much that I think I will have regular visits to this venue… My homeland is not just in Yerevan, my homeland is also in Vanadzor, Debet and Dsegh,” said President Sarkissian, adding that he will bring his grandchildren to COAF SMART Center during the upcoming summer holidays.
COAF Director of Partnerships and Events Irina Igitkhanyan spoke on the president’s visit, saying “COAF SMART Center was the culmination of the activities conducted by COAF over many years. Today’s visit once again emphasizes those results. Equal opportunities for rural children have become essential for us, taking into consideration the importance of innovative technologies for the development of Armenia, which has been mentioned by President Armen Sarkissian during the Francophonie Economic Forum.”
