Rural areas lack adequate health care facilities and practices, contributing to high rates of infant mortality and childhood diseases, as well as high rates of morbidity in adults. COAF’s health care programs focus on primary and preventive care with the aim of providing accurate diagnosis and proper treatment. The program will begin with the modernization of primary health care units (PHCUs) in the cluster. This includes the provision of necessary equipment, furniture and emergency transportation to select primary health care units. Pay-for-service medical services beyond primary health care (e.g., dental care, eye care, diagnostics, etc.) will be established to ensure the self-sustainability of PHCUs. Health care facilities will also provide specialized services beyond primary and preventive health care. COAF will provide training for all PHCU staff.
COAF will also implement health education programs on child health care and prenatal care for parents and expecting mothers, healthy lifestyle, reproductive health and HIV/AIDS prevention. These educational programs will be designed for children and adolescents, as well as for the general cluster communities.
As a result of COAF’s health care programs, cluster communities will benefit from improved access and quality of primary health care services, as well as a higher public awareness of health care issues and healthy lifestyle. Modern health care facilities, knowledge about healthy lifestyle choices and improved prenatal and child health care will contribute to a decrease in infant mortality and child diseases, increase in life expectancy, and an overall improvement in quality of life.
