Images of the Armenian Spirit

A PBS presentation

In August 2003, COAF was the lead sponsor of PBS’s airing of Images of the Armenian Spirit. This one-hour documentary on past and present Armenia celebrates the human spirit of a people that refuse to surrender to history. COAF participated in this project because it was a vehicle to raise awareness of Armenia and through this the country’s present needs. In addition, the program brought Armenia’s culture and history to millions of people and enlightened them on the history and culture of the beautiful and enduring Armenian spirit.

The film demonstrates how the location and beliefs of the Armenian people, wedged between the Middle East, Russia and Turkey, have tremendous significance in understanding today’s current events. The program traces Armenia’s origins to Mt. Ararat and Noah’s Ark, its historic precedence in becoming the first nation on earth to accept Christianity, and the annihilation of 1.5 million Armenians as they became the victims of the first Genocide of the 20th century.
