In 2003, COAF provided a grant to Our Lady of Armenia Boghossian Educational Center to support the expansion of the 11-year-old institution to help disadvantaged children stay on course to a brighter future. Our Lady of Armenia Boghossian Educational Center is home to 66 orphans, ranging in age from 6 to 20 and up. About 36 children live at the Center as full-time boarders. The Center’s main facility in Gyumri and its summer camp in Tsaghkadzor are under the direction of Sister Arousiag Sojanian of the Armenian Sisters of the Immaculate Conception. With COAF’s support, over 700 parentless children were able to attend camp in the summer of 2003.
Our Lady of Armenia Boghossian Educational Center not only provides computer science, language and arts education, but also creates a warm and nurturing environment for children who might otherwise be on the street. It is the policy of the center that no child can leave its care until he or she has found a permanent home or secured a viable job. In fact, the Center guides many of these children all the way through university, graduate school or vocational training to help them live a self-sufficient life as adults.
